At a glance
- Bonuses are added to a pay run as a separate earning, with tax withheld at the time they're paid.
- Piecework employees are paid per unit: set the rate once, enter units each run.
- Vacation pay is either paid on each stub or accrued as a balance.
Bonuses
Add a bonus to any pay run as its own line. The CRA treats bonuses differently from regular pay, and PayCub withholds tax on the bonus when it's paid, so it isn't left to be sorted out at year-end.
Piecework
For employees paid by output rather than by the hour (common in trades, agriculture and manufacturing), set the per-unit rate on the employee's profile and enter the number of units each pay period. PayCub works out gross pay from there.
Vacation pay
Vacation pay is a per-employee setting with two modes:
- Paid each period: the percentage is applied to eligible earnings and added to every pay stub. Common for hourly employees with irregular schedules.
- Accrued: it builds up as a balance on the employee's profile and is paid out when they take time off. More common for salaried employees.
The minimum percentage depends on the province and years of service. See Vacation pay by province.
